Description
The Dreadnought Hoax was a prank drawn by Horace de Vere Cole in 1910. Cole tricked the Royal Navy into showing his flagship, HMS Dreadnought, to a fake delegation from the Abyssinian royal family. The hoax drew awareness to the emergence of the Bloomsbury Group in Britain, which included some of Cole’s associates. The hoax was a repeat of a similar impersonation set up by Cole and Adrian Stephen when they were students at Cambridge in 1905.
