It was a hoax and Internet urban legend that was rumoured to have spread through social media and other outlets. It was reported that a user named Momo had committed violent attacks on children and teenagers. Despite claims that the phenomenon had reached the entire world in July 2018, the number of actual complaints was relatively low. There was little and no law enforcement agencies confirmed that anyone was harmed as a direct result.
